BD FACSAria II Cell Sorter at Division of Veterinary Biosciences

The cell sorter is located at the EE building (Agnes Sjöbergin katu 2), 4th floor, lab 4091. It can be used for high-performance sorting of cells and other particles.

For pure analysis, we recommend using an analytical FACS instrument.

How to get started with the instrument

The instrument can be used by trained personnel. We do not currently provide user training, but we can help in organizing a user training course with BD.

To apply for access to the instrument, please contact the FACSAria administration by sending an email to facsaria-admin [ät] helsinki.fi, specifying the following details:

• Your name, email, phone number and work address
• Your 8-letter username in the university IT system
• Billing address and contact details for the person who will pay the instrument usage fees
• What kind of samples you are planning to sort

We will create for you a user account for booking and using the instrument.

Fees

Helsinki University users are charged 30€/hour, and other users are charged 60€/hour, based on the user log of the FACSDiva software (starting when you log in the software and ending when you log out).

Basic solutions (FACS Flow etc.) and basic disposables (test tubes, cell strainers, CS&T beads) are provided.

Booking the instrument

The booking system is available at: https://varaus.it.helsinki.fi/day.php?area=54

Log in using your Helsinki university account (note that this is possible only when we have activated your account). Select the correct day, then click the + symbol to add a booking. Specify the details (starting time, duration and a brief description about what type of samples you are running). Finally click SAVE.

You may have a maximum of three bookings in the system.

Actually using the instrument

You are required to master the instrument to be allowed to use it. We will create a FACSDiva user account for you. For your convenience, brief operating instructions are provided here in English (.pdf). Please also note our rules for FACSARia users (.pdf).
