Venue and travel information

The venue is the large lecture hall of the building Economicum (Arkadiankatu 7) of the University of Helsinki. The venue is located in the very heart of Helsinki, next to the House of Parliament (a map with the venue marked). It is within the 5-10 min walking distance from the city "center point", the railway station.

Helsinki-Vantaa airport is on of the largest airports in Scandinavia and has excellent connections to all over the world. The airport is conveniantly accessed from the the city center by regular or shuttle busses (30-40 min fare). Helsinki can also be accessed by ferry from Sweden and Estonia and Germany and by train from Russia (travel information).

Helsinki is a culturally active Scandinavian metropol (the entire metropolitan area host more the 1 milloin inhabitants), and unique in its mix of Finnish heritage and modern culture with influences from both the East and West. Finland is especially known for design and the architecture, but also for its nature, including the lakes and the archipelago (movies about Helsinki). With a little bit of luck, Helsinki may show very nice late-summer weather during the symposium.

There are several hotels in Helsinki; we suggest that you choose a centrally located one (listing). Some major hotel chains are Sokos Hotels and Radisson SAS and there are also plenty of other international and national ones. For participants of this meeting, we have recived a group offer from Sokos Hotel Torni of EUR 114,- for a single room and EUR 134,- for a double room. The invited speakers do not need to make a booking of their own, these are made for Hotel Torni 25-28 August by the organizers.
