Contents:
G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) represent the largest family of receptors in the human genome, with more than 800 members. GPCRs are key drug targets and recent estimates that between 30-60% of the drugs currently on the market target members of the GPCR family either directly or indirectly. The last decade has seen several three-dimensional structures of GPCRs solved at atomic resolution, but also a better understanding into the complexity of their signaling pathways. The course aims at providing graduate students state-of-art knowledge in the field of GPCR research. The course is organized around three areas: physiology, sequence-structure-function relationships, and drug discovery approaches.

The course consists of about 20 lectures given by 8-10 lecturers experts in the field. The language of all lectures is English and the course is open to international participants.

The lecturers include:
Professor Jyrki Kukkonen, University of Helsinki
Professor Mika Scheinin, University of Turku
Professor Raimo Tuominen, University of Helsinki
Professor Antti Poso, University of Kuopio
Professor Pia Vuorela, Åbo Akademi University
Dr. Veli-Pekka Jaakola, University of Oulu
Dr. Henri Xhaard, Centre for Drug Research, University of Helsinki

Credit weeks:
A total of 2 ECTS can be gained:
Attending the course is worth 1 ECTS. Writing of an essay on later specified topics in addition to attendance is worth 1 extra ECTS.
